I have been working as a student research assistant (HiWi) at FUNGAS since November 2025. My main tasks include preparing fungal culture media as well as the ingredients required for them, such as salt solutions and carbon sources like xylan. I regularly carry out subcultures of fungal strains to maintain viable, contamination-free cultures for the group's ongoing experiments. In addition, I perform genomic DNA extractions from fungal samples for downstream molecular analyses. Through this work I have gained solid hands-on experience in sterile technique, microbiological cultivation and basic molecular biology methods, while providing continuous support to the lab's research.
