Project Meeting - Biogas Innovation with Enzymes from Anaerobic Fungi (Project FUNGAS)
What if the key to unlocking sustainable biogas production lies in the digestive processes of herbivores? The FUNGAS project investigates how anaerobic gut fungi, masters at breaking down tough plant material, can revolutionize biogas technology by tackling the challenge of lignocellulose recalcitrance.
After a successful first year, the FUNGAS research-team (ZHAW Institut für Chemie und Biotechnologie, Technische Wissenschaften | Universität Innsbruck, Bayerische Landesanstalt für Landwirtschaft (LfL) recently convened in Innsbruck to review progress, refine strategies, and align research goals for the coming year. The meeting included lab tours and a productive online exchange with industry partners from Austria, Germany, and Switzerland (Mátyás Scheibler, Josef Schmidiger, Ökostrom Schweiz, AAT Abwasser- und Abfalltechnik GmbH, MyPilz GmbH, Senzyme)
Special thanks to the Austrian research team for their exceptional hospitality that made the gathering productive and enjoyable!
