FUNGAS Meeting Innsbruck

Hans-Joachim Nägele and Sabine Podmirseg

Nov 18, 2024

Project Meeting - Biogas Innovation with Enzymes from Anaerobic Fungi (Project FUNGAS)

What if the key to unlocking sustainable biogas production lies in the digestive processes of herbivores? The FUNGAS project investigates how anaerobic gut fungi, masters at breaking down tough plant material, can revolutionize biogas technology by tackling the challenge of lignocellulose recalcitrance.

After a successful first year, the FUNGAS research-team (ZHAW Institut für Chemie und BiotechnologieTechnische Wissenschaften | Universität InnsbruckBayerische Landesanstalt für Landwirtschaft (LfL) recently convened in Innsbruck to review progress, refine strategies, and align research goals for the coming year. The meeting included lab tours and a productive online exchange with industry partners from Austria, Germany, and Switzerland (Mátyás ScheiblerJosef SchmidigerÖkostrom SchweizAAT Abwasser- und Abfalltechnik GmbHMyPilz GmbHSenzyme)

Special thanks to the Austrian research team for their exceptional hospitality that made the gathering productive and enjoyable!
